The exceptional Mercantour site was made a National Park back in 1979. It is world-widely known for the high-quality of its protected natural space.
One territory, two zones: the central zone (685 km²) is a sanctuary dedicated to Nature, and the peripheral zone (1463 km²) which includes 28 communes.
